Summary: "Don't forget to buy the CD's (they're separate)"
We have a whole shelf of bird books, but some are organized taxonomically and/or don't have color photos. The entries in this book are organized by major color and the pictures are fantastic. It's well worth the price I paid ($10.17). Just don't make the mistake I did. This was a gift, and I really wanted the accompanying CD's containing the bird calls. I thought the CD's were bundled with the book, as was true with the version I saw in a nature bookstore. But, they're not. You have to order the CD's separately. That was my mistake, though -- I just wasn't looking closely enough when I placed my order. I ordered the CD's as soon as I opened the box and saw they weren't there.

Summary: "Great Guide"
I purchased this for my 9 year old son. He loves it! It has fantastic photos with discriptions of each bird. Also birds are cross referenced by color . Very user friendly. I purchased the companion Audio CD. Together they make it much easier to distinguish between birds. Along with these two I bought a Birding Journal for Kids. When my son spots a bird he writes it in the journal as "bird of the day" . The whole family has enjoyed using these birding tools. Summary: "Bird of Alabama"
I've had at least 2 other Alabama bird books and this is by far the best one. Birds of Alabama has the birds listed by color throughout the book then by name in alpha order in the back. The pictures of the birds is worth the price of the book. They are excellent. Most all of the birds have a female/male that has different coloring - that is shown as well. The descriptions are outstanding: nest size, juvenile coloring, migration, summer and winter habitat and so much more. A great book for bird watchers.

I purchased this book for my son and his wife, who have recently moved to Alabama.
I have one on Birds of Oregon, and Birds of the Willamette Valley, by the same author.
I use mine like a Bible. My son told me they're really enjoying looking up the bird species
they see in AL, too.
