Description

For 10 years Arlene has kept her promises, and God has kept His end of the bargain. Until now.
When an old schoolmate from Possett turns up at Arlene's door in Chicago asking questions about Jim Beverly, former quarterback and god of Possett High, Arlene's break with her former hometown is forced to an end. At the same time, Burr, her long-time boyfriend, has raised an ultimatum: introduce him to her family or consider him gone. Arlene loves him dearly but knows her lily white (not to mention deeply racist)Southern Baptist family will not understand her relationship with an African American boyfriend. Reluctantly, Arlene bows to the pressure, and she and Burr embark on the long-avoided road trip back home.
As Arlene digs through guilt and deception, her patched-together alibi begins to unravel, and she discovers how far she will go for love and a chance at redemption.

Summary: "A Man's Book As Much As A Woman's"

No chick lit found here between the covers of this cross between Southern Gothic, Murder Mystery, Love Story and funny as hell book.

While I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts most of Mrs. Jackson's readers and reviewers are women-given the cover art used on all her novels-I highly recommend this romp through L.A. (Lower Alabama) to men. You will see the good, bad and ugly that's in us all. You will see Southern women as they really are-full of grit, grace and guts, and not the Southern stereotype Southern Bell of yesteryear.

Whatever your sex, Mrs. Jackson polished prose draws you in and crawls all over your brain cells like Kudzu and doesn't let you go until she ends her novel.

Summary: "Fantastic! Couldn't put it down."

As an extremely busy mom of 2, I haven't picked up a book that didn't have to do with cooking or child rearing in several years. I used to be an avid reader, and decided it was time to pick up my old hobby. Being somewhat out of the loop in good fiction these days, I just grabbed the first colorful paperback I saw at the library. IT WAS SO GOOD!! I really lucked out. I couldn't put the book down. This book had so many twists and turns and such a GREAT ending. Completely unpredicatable. I highly recommend it, and will be reading all the others by Joshilyn Jackson. Thanks for getting me started off with a bang!

Summary: "Decent condition, misrepresented ship-from location"

I ordered the book from this company, primarily because their listing claimed the book would be delivered from DE, United States (which, as I understand it, means Delaware). I live in Maryland, just one state over, and wanted my book quickly for a deadline I needed to meet. Allowing for 2 business days to fill the order and 2 days for shipping time between Delaware and Maryland, at most it should only have taken 5 to 7 days to arrive. Turns out, my book came from the UK! It took 17 days from the time I placed my order, to the time I received it. The book itself was fine, but I was disappointed that it took SO long to receive my order, especially without notification it would not be sent out locally. Will try not to order from them again.

Summary: "Gods"

This is, at its core, the story of a mother and daughter, and how a mother's love, though sometimes well concealed, transcends the generation gap. A beautiful, thought-provoking story set in a true-to-life southern town, where high school football and church are the most important things there are.
